Middle Years

For children ages eight to ten, the Middle Years program emphasizes the refinement of academic skills in a stimulating classroom environment where the acquisition of new skills can be put to effective use. Homework begins in the Middle Years and grows incrementally in each age group. At this age additional instruction in the areas of computers, recorder, science, and Spanish begins. There are regularly scheduled half-group classes for art, library, music, and woodshop. Physical education classes utilize our gym and large, street-level schoolyard.

Starting at age eight, children take the Educational Records Bureau Comprehensive Testing Program Exams, which are used as check-ups and opportunities to familiarize students with formal test-taking procedures. The results of these tests are shared with parents. Teachers and parents meet twice yearly to discuss student progress and written reports are sent to families in winter and spring.
