Kindergarteners Create and Follow Their First Engineering Plan

Kindergarteners recently embarked on their first engineering project of the year, working to design and assemble their own colorful 3D houses. An important element of this project was creating an engineering plan to work from, and students used colored pencils to create a drawing of their house to guide their process. They also thought carefully about what materials would be necessary to bring their designs to life and wrote out a list of everything they would need.

On build day, our youngest students used cardboard boxes to give their homes structure and covered them with colored paper, forming the foundation of their designs. Next, they will use additional colored paper, pompoms, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, markers, and more to decorate and embellish their unique 3D house designs.
