Lower School Dance Party 2020!
The Physical Education program at VCS isn’t just about teaching specific sports and fitness skills, but also helping students to see how healthy physical activities can be incorporated in their daily lives and routines. One of the most fun and easy ways to stay active is by dancing, and Lower Schoolers have spent recent weeks learning a ton of new moves in P.E., including line dances to “Cotton Eye Joe,” the “Macarena” and the “Chicken Dance.” Students at each Grade level also learned a unique dance set to a beach-themed song and choreographed for them by 8th Grade volunteers, some of whom have been helping to lead this unit of the P.E. curriculum since 6th Grade. With so many new dances for Lower Schoolers to practice, it was the perfect time to throw a party – the third-annual VCS Dance Party!
On Friday, Lower School students and their families gathered in the Auditorium for a beach-themed party that served as a culmination of students’ Dance unit. Thanks to our hardworking P.E. team – and Event Co-Chairs Lauren Roth and Sara Preschel Markus – it was an evening to remember, full of joyful movement under the disco ball. Parents joined their children on the dance floor, James kept the energy up as the DJ and MC, Matt shared a video of students’ working to learn their choreography, our amazing kitchen staff supplied some excellent party food – and we all got a little exercise.
