I have always known I wanted to work with children, and I love school environments. I spent last year working in the Admissions Office while spending my afternoons tutoring. I had the opportunity to return to the 5/6s classroom, filling in for a teacher on maternity leave for the last 2 months of the school year. I am currently at Harvard Graduate School of Education working towards my masters in Human Development and Psychology. I hope to work in the field of child psychology within a school setting – maybe even VCS!
I don’t remember when it started, but for nearly as long as I can remember, I have loved working with younger children. I can remember how much I loved and appreciated my time as a Book Buddy. I really enjoyed the opportunity to be a role model and to support a younger student with the development of an important skill. I still keep in touch with a Book Buddy I had when I was in Upper School. From high school until now, I have always found a way to work one-on-one (tutoring, mentoring, etc.) with children in an academic setting, and my first real exposure to that kind of work was at VCS!
Most of my memories are from my eighth grade year at VCS. Eighth grade is such a special and important year at VCS. I remember the proud and empowering feeling of being an eighth grader in a school that I had attended for so long. I vividly remember our eighth grade overnight trip, the opening assembly and, of course, graduation.
