Volunteer OpportunitiesAlumni volunteers contribute to the VCS community in a myriad of ways. There are many ways you can support your community: collecting class notes from your peers, organizing reunions, visiting the school as a guest speaker, hosting alumni events or supporting the efforts of the Annual Fund under the guidance of the Alumni Relations program. If you are interested in taking on a volunteer role please contact the VCS Alumni Office to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of each position.
Whether you would prefer an ongoing commitment, or you would like to volunteer to help with a single event, there are many opportunities to make a difference in the life of the school. There is a role available to fit within any schedule – a few of them are:
Class Representatives act as liaisons between the school and their former classmates. Class Representatives are responsible for reaching out to their classmates, encouraging them to attend events and reunions and sharing updates from the school. Representatives are also asked to identify future leaders and aid in their recruitment.
Representatives are expected to inform classmates about the Annual Fund and the importance of alumni support. This is includes establishing fundraising goals, participating in the Alumni Phonathon and thanking classmates for their contributions.
Our Class Representatives serve as leaders for all alumni. In the spirit of leading by example, representatives are asked to make a pledge or contribution to the fund or campaign in the fall.
Class Secretaries help facilitate communications between the school and their peers. Secretaries are responsible for collecting up-to-date contact information and other relevant information. They are also asked to contribute to our profiles on alumni by collecting personal narratives and vignettes of classmates’ time at VCS – some of these are even featured on the VCS website.
Secretaries are asked to make a pledge or contribution to the fund or campaign in the fall to set an example for all alumni.
Reunion Chairs are responsible for organizing and promoting reunion activities for their class. They are also responsible for collecting and updating contact information to ease outreach to their classmates. In this leadership role, reunion chairs are asked to solicit classmates to contribute to the Annual Fund in recognition of their reunion year.
As they will be asking classmates to contribute, we ask our Reunion Chairs to make a pledge or contribution to the fund or campaign in the fall to set an example.
Event Chairs are responsible for organizing and promoting events for fellow alumni. They are also responsible for collecting and updating contact information to ease outreach to classmates. Event chairs are asked to create, inspire and execute new events.
As leaders, Event Chairs are asked to make a pledge or contribution to the fund or campaign in the fall to set an example.
Mentors act as teachers and counselors for college age alumni in their field of professional expertise. Mentors are paired with mentees with shared professional and/or personal interests. We partner mentor and mentees, but we encourage alumni to voice a desired mentor.
Guest speakers are invited to speak to peers and/or current students about a particular area of expertise. Some of the most poignant talks are educational additions to the student’s curriculum. In the past alumni have participated on the High School Panel, the China Trip Information Session and more. We always love hearing stories about the speaker’s time at VCS.
Alumni Association Members are expected to honor and perpetuate the school’s Mission within the school and their communities at large. We look to alumni to play an instrumental role in the founding, shaping, and continued growth of the Alumni Association. As advocates for VCS, volunteers are asked to support the school through uniting alumni in the common goal of supporting the advancement of our community.
As leaders in our community, Alumni Association members are asked to make a pledge or contribution to the Annual Fund or Campaign in the fall.
